Alexander Meagher is a multi-disciplinary music maker and exceptional percussionist. His diverse work often incorporates extra-musical elements – theatre, circus, dance, lighting, story telling – in the pursuit of new exciting hybrid music forms. Based in Naarm, he trained classically at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and the Australian National Academy of Music, but is adept in a broad range of contemporary and traditional music genres, styles and instruments. With his work, he aims to create transportive, energetic, narrative grounded music that leaves audiences in a state of curiosity and wonder.

Since graduating in 2021, as a musician or collaborating artist, his talents have been regularly engaged by leading orchestras, chamber music ensembles and interdisciplinary performance makers. Highlights include performing with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Speak Percussion, Astra Chamber Music Society, Mindy Meng Wang and in major festivals - AsiaTOPA, RISING, Adelaide Festival, Melbourne Fringe, Sydney Festival, and OzAsia. In July 2025 he traveled to Banff Centre of Arts & Creativity to be part of their Interplay program for opera and chamber music.

From 2023-2024, Alexander was part of Speak Percussion’s Bespoke Emerging Artist Program, where he created “A Brilliant Seagull” - a work for live percussion and pre-recorded soundscape inspired by the Richard Bach novella “Jonathan Livingston Seagull”. The work toured regional New South Wales in 2026 as part of Musica Viva’s Regional Touring program.

Alexander is part of the team of the APRA Green Room Award-winning production “Opera for the Dead”, (created by Mindy Meng Wang & Monica Lim), and can be heard on the official cast recording of the production. He can be also be heard in the soundtracks for “The Goddess” (music composed by Burkhard Dallwitz/Mindy Meng Wang), the Nicolas Cage/Lorcan Finnegan film “The Surfer” (music by François Tétaz) and Jacob Boehme’s dance work “Guuranda” (music by James Henry), which premiered at Adelaide Festival 2024.
